In article 3, paragraph (a) of The Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, human trafficking is defined as the â€Å"recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation,† which includes â€Å"the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs.† This protocol was drafted and signed in the 2000 and became effective in 2003 but the issue of human trafficking can be traced back to the start of the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade that involved the transp ortation of persons from Africa (mostly from central and western regions of the continent) to the Americas including North and South America as well as the Caribbean. It existed between three locations across the Atlantic thus becoming known as the Triangular Trade Route.
