Introducing Staff For New Technology System - 1484 Words

Introducing Staff to New Technology System With the implementation of new software systems or new methods of performing tasks, there is often some level of resistance. Properly introducing the new idea, its feasibility and purpose is a necessary aspect of getting one’s current staff onboard and in cooperation with the plan. They need to understand the importance of system implementation and its implication on their daily performance of patient care. Nursing is an ever-evolving profession, one with many facets of care. However, emotions can inhibit the way change is accepted. â€Å"Implementing sustainable and meaningful change means supporting each individual to find value in new ways of working† (Bowers, 2011, para. 1). Unexpected change lends itself to uncertainty, and fear of the unknown. Therefore, being able to identify reas ons for resistance, and working to quell these levels of resistance are important in a constructive manner, this helps with progression. To empower the nursing staff about changes that are paramount to the success of patient care, they need to be informed about the prospective benefits of the implementation. A Great Conclusion Given to Great Expectations by Charles...

Despite the morbid and gloomy tone Charles Dickens has set for the rest of the novel, the rewritten ending fits well along with the surrounding context because the reader is able to better understand the development of Estella’s character, it is far more conclusive in comparison to the original, and it reveals a little more about Pip’s growth in character and traits. Throughout the course of the novel, Estella is perceived to be this cold-hearted reptile, but this is contradicted in Charles Dickens’ rewritten ending, when she is instead written to have grown much more open and warm towards Pip, exemplifying her growth and development in character. Although Great Expectations mainly revolves around Pip’s adventures and†¦show more content†¦In relation to the original resolution of the novel, the rewritten one would be much more fitting as it is far more conclusive and sets this tone of completion. The original ending, even though matching moods wit h the rest of the novel, seems to end, leaving the reader with a sense of confusion, as if it ended ever so bluntly and depressingly. The setting Charles Dickens has chosen for the second ending, the garden of Satis House, gives the novel an intriguing elliptical feeling, as it seems to tie the entire book together from where it all began. It would only seem appropriate that Pip and Estella should reconcile at Satis House -- the area that symbolizes all death and decay, in addition to the rough and dirty past, and renew their lives. This provided setting appears to not only Estellas character, but the issues regarding Miss Havisham and their ever so solitary, unfortunate lives. Regardless of what seems to be a not fitting, â€Å"happy† ending, the imagery of the â€Å"cold silvery mist [that] had veiled the afternoon† sets the same tone of mystery and gloom, and therefore connecting with the rest of the novel. Coriander free essay sample

?Introduction to Plot The story is built around two alternate worlds, both are in civil wars. In the real world, England, Coriander Hobie is born. She is the main character in the story and the plot revolves around her, in a struggle against Queen Rosmore of the fairy world to keep her mother’s fairy shadow from her in the hope of saving her true love from certain death. She has to deal with the death of her mother, and the rule of a preacher and a stepmother who is not at all kind like her mother. Main Characters Coriander Hobie: A girl who had only known happiness before the tragic death of her mother, and the warrant for the arrest of her father was issued. Coriander is the main character of the story; she starts off as a child who lived in a carefree world until a pair of silver shoes were left on her doorstep. This is when her world starts to turn upside down shortly after she goes out of her way and takes the shoes without her parents’ permission; her mother dies tragically in front of her eyes. Her father married a Puritan in the hope of avoiding bankruptcy. Coriander has all the qualities that you would expect from the main protagonist; she is brave, honest, and resilient. Eleanor Hobie: The mother of Coriander, she and her stepmother Queen Rosmore are the main causes of the plot, as she possesses a great power which Rosmore desires and will even kill her for. She is much like her daughter, brave, clever and unselfish. Thomas Hobie: The father of Coriander, he Mary Danes: She is the maid of Eleanor and Thomas Hobie before the tragic incidents, she acts as the main source of support for Coriander when Arise Fell and Maud Leggs abuse her. She and Coriander have a very close relationship comparable to that of Coriander and her own mother. Queen Rosmore: She is the main antagonist in the story; her struggle for her stepdaughter’s fairy shadow is the plot of the story. She is portrayed as very greedy for power and strict. She rules the fairy kingdom through fear. Arise Fell: He and Maud Leggs are the antagonists in the real world, he is a preacher who is very hypocritical; saying that he is a godly man and that all shall obey the word of god, yet he is very greedy for money and power and uses deception to get money and power, which is sinful. Maud Leggs: She claims to be a good godly woman, but just like Arise Fell she is very hypocritical, also being very greedy for money and power. Hester Leggs: She is the daughter of Maud Leggs and she could not be anything more unlike her mother, she is kind, resilient and unselfish, often risking a good beating from her mother to help Coriander out when she is left to starve. Tycho: He comes from the fairy world and is the love interest of Coriander. He is one of the reasons for Coriander wanting to keep the shadow from Rosmore; if Rosmore gets the shadow then Tycho will surely be killed. Master Thankless: He takes in Coriander and Hester after his apprentice Gabriel finds out how they are being treated by Maud Leggs and Arise Fell. He is very caring of others treating Coriander, Hester and Gabriel as if they were his own children. Gabriel: He is the apprentice to Master Thankless and through his efforts Coriander and Hester are saved from the so called ‘Godly house’ run by Arise Fell and Maud Leggs. He is revealed to have feelings for Hester and later marries her. Medlar: He serves as an introduction to the fairy world for Coriander, it is revealed that he is the one that gets Eleanor and Thomas to fall in love with eachover. Information on the historical period it is set in The story is set during The English Civil Wars (1642-1651) they were a series of armed conflicts and political machinations between the Parliamentarians and the Royalists. The first (1642–1646) and second (1648–1649) civil wars pitted the supporters of King Charles I against the supporters of the Long Parliament, while the third war (1649–1651) saw fighting between supporters of King Charles II and supporters of the Rump Parliament. The Civil War ended with the Parliamentary victory at the Battle of Worcester on 3 September 1651. The wars leaded to the execution of King Charles I, his son being forced to go into hiding and Oliver Cromwell taking control of England and forming the Commonwealth of England. Charles I was charged with high treason for being a ‘tyrant, traitor, murderer, and public enemy’ he was executed on the 30th January 1649. On 4 April 1660, in the Declaration of Breda, Charles II made known the conditions of his acceptance of the Crown of England. Monck organised the Convention Parliament, which met for the first time on 25 April 1660. On 8 May 1660, it declared that King Charles II had reigned as the lawful monarch since the execution of Charles I in January 1649. Charles returned from exile on 23 May 1660. On 29 May 1660, the populace in London acclaimed him as king. His coronation took place at Westminster Abbey on 23 April 1661. These events became known as the English Restoration. How the fantasy elements link with the historical elements In the exact period the novel is set, Cromwell rules with an iron fist, not tolerating any Royalists within his kingdom, they are all either arrested or have gone into hiding like Thomas Hobie. In the parallel world Queen Rosmore is also a dictator who runs her kingdom through the use of fear. If u disobeyed Rosmore you would be turned into an animal and hunted down, like what happened to Prince Tycho when he refused to marry on Rosmore’s orders. However the people in the fantasy world have the ability to travel into the real world whereas the people in the real world are unable to travel into the fantasy world with the exception of Coriander, so characters from the fantasy world have the ability to influence things in the real world. This is shown when Rosmore killed Eleanor Hobie and told Maud Leggs to marry Thomas Hobie, and later forced Arise Fell and Maud Leggs to take Eleanor’s fairy shadow. Also in the real world females are seen as inferior to males while in the fantasy world it seems to be the opposite, with Queen Rosmore ruling the kingdom. What you could ask yourself while reading the book Well I think the main question for readers, is that how one girl who is still a child can cope with all that is in front of her. She is mistreated by Arise Fell and Maud Leggs constantly, has the responsibility of saving a whole alternate universe thrust upon her by keeping Rosmore from her mother’s shadow. And all this while she is still grieving the loss of her mother to death, the loss of her father to exile, and the loss of Danes who had been like a bigger sister if not mother to her. Not to mention that during that time period girls were often thought to have ‘feeble minds’ compared to men. Another is what is the book truly saying to you? Is it pointing out that humans sometimes caught up in their own lust for power can do terrible things to one another? Or is it taking a political stand and saying that a monarchy is better than a theocracy which is what Oliver Cromwell and the Puritans were running. Or is it just showing you the harsh conditions that you had to live in as a female during the 17th century, being inferior to males? Main idea of the novel The novel I believe, like all other fantasy novels pits good against evil in a struggle for power. All of the ideas stem from this main idea of good against evil, in that in the real world it is a battle of the Royalists, who are portrayed to be good against the Puritans. In the end evil gets what it deserves, in both worlds the evil dictators were both overthrown. This can stem into the idea that love and courage conquer all, both being traits that you would expect from a protagonist. When Coriander falls in love with Tycho this is her main motive for wanting to keep the shadow from Queen Rosmore, if she fails he will surely be killed. Having said this, it is still remarkable the amount of courage she has to confront Arise Fell and Maud Leggs, where during the confrontation she finally gets Arise to accept that her name is Coriander ‘for without her name who was she’ , in an effort to obtain the shadow back. Even when she is very young she demonstrates remarkable feats of courage getting the key from the stuffed alligator’s mouth which her father describes as ‘quite a brave thing to do for someone as scared of that alligator as you’ while disobeying her mothers wishes at the same time. Critical Judgement I don’t know how you will react to the book, but I personally loved it. I felt that I could easily relate to the main character Coriander, and every time something tragic happened such as the loss of her mother I could really connect with it. The time with which the story is set goes well to complement the sad atmosphere of the story. The sad points in the book which I really connected with were further helped by the fact that at the beginning of the book everything is so happy but then Coriander finds out that life isn’t as simple as it seems. The only bad thing that I could find about the book was that at the start it was a bit slow and pointless until you get to the part when her mother dies, then you realize that the beginning was to emphasize her loss, but it could be the reason why some people don’t finish the book as they read the first fifty or so pages and fall asleep. Luckily enough for me I went through the whole book and I loved it. Brilliant, imaginative work from Sally Gardner, managing to tie two worlds together while still having one essential plot I give it 4. 5/5. Ideas for further research on the novel and 3 novels you should also read If you loved the novel as much as I did you could find out more about the period of time the book was set in, or more about the author Sally Gardner. She has just released a new book called the ‘red necklace’ which would be good to read if you enjoyed I, Coriander. It is set in the French Revolution and ties in gypsy magic as well so it is fairly similar to I, Coriander. Also other popular fantasy books such as the Harry Potter series which is about a young wizard who never knew his parents and grows up with the expectations of being one of the greatest wizards ever even though he didn’t even know the magical world existed.

Solar energy has started to gain momentum as it is utilized long before in solar-powered calculators and solar panels as a source of electricity. Solar power technologies used photovoltaic (PV) panels to convert the sunlight directly to electricity (NC GreenPower n.d.). Hydropower is a form of energy already used in hydroelectric plants to produce electricity. It is considered as one of the most environmental friendly sources of electricity. It uses the falling water to produce energy. The falling water causes the turbine to spin as it is attached to the generator, which produces the energy. The process of generating electricity produces no pollution and does not need a big dam or reservoir (NC GreenPower n.d.). For over centuries, many civilizations have used the wind to produce energy. It was once used in farms to pump water and to grind the grains. It has been updated to generate electricity without rendering effects on the environment. PURCHASING - Essay Example We can say that when we need to perform any specific task regarding some sort of activity, we need to have some related goods and services available for us in order to perform that activity. And attainment of those goods and services is referred to as purchasing. If we talk about hotels and restaurants, purchases mean to acquire those goods and services which we need to have in our hands for the purpose of successful operations of the restaurant. If these goods and services are to the management of the restaurant right at the time when they are needed, the restaurant will be able to operate its functions efficiently and effectively. But when they are not available or accessible for the management of the restaurant at the desired time, it will become very difficult for the restaurant to maintain its level of reliability and public’s confidence stable. So we can say that purchasing is one of the most important factors which are to be taken into consideration by the management of the restaurant or any other organization in order to perform all the related functions successfully. Labor Economics - Term Paper Example This is because the poor did not have enough time to invest as the rich people in the American populations. It affected women and black Americans the most because they were poor before the economy of America grew (Schiller, 2004). The inequality happened from a long time ago because of the change in the labor market. This is because the people that worked as skilled laborers in the early 1970 received a substantial pay. This was in contrast to money received by the unskilled laborers. The income inequality increased over the years, and this is what made the skilled laborers rich and the unskilled poor. The international trade is to blame for the increase in the outcome imbalance (Blinder, 2011). This is because the trade led to the increased cost of products, which reduced the profits of the companies. This led the companies to lay off some of its employees and many unskilled laborers lost their jobs. Technology also led to the imbalance because with the use of better machines unskilled laborers had no work to do in a company. Therefore, they lost their jobs as the machines replaced what they did in the company. People came to the realization that they had to receive a decent education to secure a reasonable job. This made the companies get many skilled workers and the gap increased between income of the skilled laborers and the unskilled laborers. However, the growth of income inequality has produced beneficial results more than the bad results. This is because the gap that developed amid the rich and the poor motivated people to work harder. When the economy of America grew significantly, the rich people received a larger salary, and this is especially those who had high education qualification. The poor people received less pay, and they constituted the people that had low education qualification (Blinder, 2011). This then made those who had less qualification in education to work harder in their places of work.

Computers and English Language Teaching Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5250 words

Computers and English Language Teaching - Essay Example Thus students in one country can and do take classes in another. Before dealing with the details of computer aided teaching of English as a foreign language and teacher training, it will be useful to consider briefly the online education environment in general. The online teaching environment may be divided into two basic different types: synchronous courses and asynchronous courses. A synchronous course occurs in "real time", i.e. the instructor and the students are logged on to the internet at the same time and are within the online course, perhaps exchanging IM's or with a lecture occurring on a live whiteboard program. However, the best use of online education is in the asynchronous mode, in which lectures are available on the course website as P.Points and/or audio-visual files, students take part in threaded discussions and assignments are submitted to a digital drop-box (Kearsley, 1999). Some of the major advantages of online teaching are the ability of students in remote geographical areas to take classes, introduce new types of pedagogy to the 'classroom' and create a more reflective atmosphere for students. One major feature of online classes is that the dominant personalities that are found in all physical classrooms can no longer dominate all class discussions. More shy students who are likely to be silent and even unnoticed in the live classroom are 'heard from' in the online situation. Thus there is an equalization and a democratization of the student learning system that cannot occur in the actual classroom. This sense of equality comes at what some have seen as a considerable price. Bender (2003) poses a question that is difficult to answer, but which the online teacher (and especially the online teacher instructing language) must consider: Students generally like to have a sense of belonging. When they attend a class on campus, they become familiar with the room in which the class is held . . feeling included in a group is an important factor for encouraging the true potential for learning taking place . . . but is it possible for a class that does not occupy spatial coordinates to still generate a feeling of place . . . does the association of "distance" and "learning" constitute an oxymoron After all, education is surely about the meeting of minds, not their separation. (Bender, 2003) These are difficult questions that have yet to be answered because online teaching is still in its embryonic stage. As the Internet itself develops, and as bandwidth speeds increase to the point where real-time teaching and complex audio-visual materials will be available as easily as television is today, then a real test of whether there is a "place" within the online teaching environment will be set. As it is, all the signs seem to be that a sense of place can occur, as long as the teacher has a sound knowledge, both of her subject and also of the special opportunities and challenges of the online teaching environment. The Blackboard online platform is currently one of the most utilized within the world of online teaching. It offers the teacher a number of different teaching possibilities and strategies. These include the inclusion of lecture notes (often Power Point

One of the most common tendencies of people making purchase decisions is by an advice from their friends. Indeed, word-of-mouth (WOM) recommendation from friends and significantly have long been recognized as a powerful weapon in any marketers armory. On that consequence, it is sensible to assume that the suggestions which emerge from friends in social media sites might have influence, which is similar to a conventional WOM recommendation. In todays world there are many Social Networking Sites in existence on the World Wide Web (WWW).   The most popular ones for business use are LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are the famous of social networking sites. These sites allow users to create profiles and add people as friend, bring people with similar interests together and also allow them to create connections to construct a social network. A social network consists of all the people friends, family and others with whom one shares a social relationship.Advertising on Social Networking Sites can be low cost. Business and organizations are focusing on the cost reduction in the current global economic scenario. Hence, this type of advertising is a highly useful strategy in this economic situation.   To compare with the conventional advertising, the Social Network Advertising seems to require time to establish the effective profile and posts, and more time to actually implement these techniques on a regular basis, b ut it have low costs for the business. Social sites are not just for the company to broadcast information for consumers, but for consumers to participate in open free conversations with these companies by posting, commenting and following their Facebook pages, Twitter accounts or blogs. Facebook and Twitter provide quick updates information and company changes functions to users and however for more engaging conversation blogs are generally used to provide more information to their audience and allow for comments and questions. Jet star Company is one of an example of using social networks to promote their company. Social Network advertising is taking advantages of reduced cost, increased sales and the customer interaction. It is important that businesses build online platform to prevent the negative effect and guarantee and maintain their Social Network as it may be damage the reputation and worth of the brand.   Social media is a great advantage to companies as it allows them to interact with people at the level that they are on, even it is through Twitter, Face book, YouTube or blogs. This involvement with their customers helps businesses to increase sales, allows the customer to be part of the brand or simply as a customer service tool. Thus, the importance of maintaining a social media plan is to ensure customers are kept in active. There would have certain disadvantages of using the Social Network, like, people share negative comments with business, though not represented to affect companies. In another way to say, it is advantage for companies to provide opportunities to improve their weakness and attract customers participation. Complaint or negative feedbacks can also arise from unsatisfied customers and quickly spread across the social sites. While social networks open the company up to negative feedback and comments, it is much better for them to be in the space so they have a chance to reply back and be heard. One of the sure concern of the Companies, and allows companies to participate with their customers and listen to their positions in the Social Network. In case of the companies without the social media sites, those customers would complain that they were not getting responses from the company, therefore company needs to set up this communication and get the root of a problem is the most crucial benefit company using social media (Burson-Marsteller, 2010). As more people are spending more time online as well as social networking sites, it indicates there are advantages for businesses to be participating in this Social Network. According to the data graph, 79% of businesses are already using some form of social networking for their business allowing them to essentially promote their brand or product to increase sales. As with the Blendtec example, a low cost effective YouTube campaign increased their sales five times (Mashable, 2009). My Starbucks Idea the Starbucks an example, which showed that companies advantage from introducing the customer into their business and building their engagement to make them feel like they are part of the businesses and providing opinions for improvement. This engagement works two ways with the consumer feeling loyalty to the brand as they are part of the company itself. When the business encourages to create Social Networking marketing or advertising, they need to organize and consider all aspects of Soci al Networking, if they have sufficient prepare of the plan or organization, it is possible to control any circumstances when it comes, in case of the negative feedbacks or complaint, companies can make improvements or respond immediately and become a part of customer service to solve and help customers in the fastest way. Overall, probably the strongest advantage of social networking in business is because of the consumer. Allowing a customer to have the opportunity to receive customer service or have realized their concerns in short time to meet their needs for instant satisfaction. Traditional advertising have became of lower importance as via social media we have gained greater access to what our friends think. People more emphasize on their experiences and their friends experience with brands and products than on advertisements. Thus, the concern should be on, to understand the basic behavior of people when it comes to decision making. In Advertising on the Brain it states, people have an emotional and a physical reaction, before engaging in rational thought. In other words, the process goes like, feel then react and then think. Most advertising fails to understand actions which are succeeded by positive emotions. If some kind of negative emotion are felt which may be intentional or not, then the consumer turns negative towards the brand/product.Marketers have to be intelligent towards the emotional reactions that they create, general in creating positive emotional reactions, and make it easy for people to try their brand/product, thus solidifying the positiv e emotion that makes them share about their experience with others hence there is rise of engagement advertising. In Charting a Shift from Communications to Engagements it says, The new marketing is about creating 360à ¢Ã‚ Ã‚ ° brand experiences, not messaging. Consumers should buy into to your brands ideas, not just your product. Instead of defining Reasons To Believe, there is a need to define Reasons To Be. Brands no longer are contained in any communication or campaign, but rather is understood through its many touch-points. positive touch-points should b created, and positive ROI should also b created. Thus, creating multiple positive touch-points requires a creative mind, here Marketers have to be stay strong and willing to risk failure, and ideally allow a minimum of three months to test any marketing/advertising ideas to see what works. The more we can incorporate social technology into real-life events, the more people get excited and curious about it. Marketers should be restless to incorporate promotion of art into their work. After all, art creates positive emotion, which begets action. Consumer Buying Behaviour Many decisions are being made by the consumers daily. What consumers buy where they buy, how and how much they buy, when they buy, and why they buy are the main concern of big companies to research on, they need to know about consumers buying decisions. Actual consumer purchases can be studied by the Marketers to find out what they buy, where, and how much. The answers are often locked deep within the consumers head hence learning about the whys of consumer buying behavior is a bit difficult. The main focus of the marketers is on the question that: How do consumers respond to various marketing efforts the company might use? The company that really understands how consumers will respond to different product features, prices, and advertising appeals has a great advantage over its competitors. The starting point is the stimulus-response model of buyer behavior.Marketers have to understand a lot before marketing strategies can be developed. People using consumer markets buy goods and serv ices for personal consumption. The varied consumers differ tremendously with age, income, education, tastes, and other factors. The buyers characteristics and by the buyers decision process influences the consumer behavior. Buyer characteristics include four major factors: cultural, social, personal, and psychological. Similarly, we can say that following factors can influence the Buying decision of the buyer are a. Cultural, Social, Personal,. Psychological Consumers making buying decisions mainly affect buyer. The buyer decision process consists of five stages:  need recognition, information search, evaluation of alternatives, purchase decision,  and  post purchase  behavior.  Clearly, the buying process starts long before and after the actual purchase. The entire buying process should be focused by the marketers rather than just the purchase decision which implies that consumers pass through all five stages with every purchase. Yet, in more routine purchases, consumers often skip or reverse some of these stages. A woman buying her regular brand of toothpaste would recognize the need and go right to the purchase decision, skipping information search and evaluation. Thus, we use the model in Figure because it shows all the considerations that arise when a consumer faces a new and complex purchase situation. The buyer recognizes a problem or need which is the starting of the buying process, known as need recognition. The buyer re cognizes a difference between his or her  actual  item and some  desired  item. The need can be triggered by  internal stimuli when one of the persons normal needs- hunger, thirst- raises to a level high enough to develop its craving. A need can also be triggered by  external stimuli.  At this stage, the   Ã‚  marketer need to thoroughly research consumers to find out what kinds of needs or problems arise, what brought them about, and how they can manage with the consumer related to the particular product. By gathering such information, the marketer identifies the factors that most often trigger interest in the product and can develop marketing programs that involve these factors. The emerging new influencer community is wielding significant power over the perceptions of brands and companies, the influencers to communicate are largely driven by the rapid expansion of social media channels through. The new some-bodies which were the nobodies of the past are demanding the attention of communication professionals continuous seeking engagement with targeted consumers throughout the various channels of the social web. A new level of activism is witnessed by Corporate management from an influential constituency rarely heard from in the past ordinary consumers. A large share of voice benefits in the market are gained by many of these new consumer influencers. It is due to the impact of the internet, and the technologies that bring together people who share common interests, Consumers are impacting brand equity as never before. This unnerves corporate marketing practitioners with high responsibility for brand management. To control the brand conversation, Companies feel the pressure. They may not currently have a voice in the social media space. However, establishing a presence on Twitter or Facebook without the due diligence required to make the effort worthwhile will produce few worthwhile results. Simply due to acquiring a presence on these sites for the sake of maintaining control over the brand discussion for providing the illusion of taking action which sometimes feels like taking control. Four out of five internet users visit a social network site on a monthly basis, with Facebook and Twitter causing much growth in the industry, and six out of seven US internet users now viewing online video content in a month (Radwanick, 2010). The most common form is banner advertisements used for promoting opportunities on internet. Banner activities are just like print media with an added facility of clicking on banner and directly reaching to advertisement. It can do two things basically for the marketer. A visitor surfing through publishers website will look at banner ad . therefore a banner ad will help them get a customer. Actual success of banner ad is when the v isitor buys the product. Failure of clicking, advertisers think that a visitor will see the banner ad and remember it in their heads. This means the visitor pays attention to the content of a banner ad and decides to visit the site in the future, or it means that the visitor will glance on the ad but is clear and have knowledge of the product or service offered. This second effect of advertising is known as branding. Product Class congruity between a banner advertisement and website should have a there is a direct effect on consumers mind towards the website based on banner advertisement and the website considering the product class congruity. customers attitude towards brand is very essential in understanding there purchase decisions. attitude toward brand is a feeling which can be evaluate consumers hold to a specific brand .going by the traditional view made up of personal beliefs of the attitudinal objects, brand attitude gets effected by advertisements. In addition to this there is attitude towards the website. Corporate Web sites offer a variety of services such as direct selling, projecting corporate image, providing product information, generating qualified leads, dispensing electronic coupons, and handling a variety of post purchase tasks (Berthon et al., 1996; Hoffman and Novak, 1996). A lot of online traffic is generated by compan ies through active promotion of the address uniform resource locator (URL) with an online registration with search engines, hyper textual links with other Web sites and in major cases paid banner advertisements on other Web sites. This method is of huge concern now a days. Like a TV, radio or print advertisement tells the audience to call an 800 number or direct mail has the receiver mail in a reply, a banner takes the visitor to the advertisers page. when not clicked, advertisement banners definitely impacts the attitude of the visitor and help build the brands product and services offered by marketer (Elliott, 1996). banner advertisements increase the popularity. Web advertisers are dicey regarding the cost per thousand (CPM) pricing model based on impressions, that insist on payment for results or click throughs. Advertisers need to know that who is clicking and what are the reasons behind it.. Answering to this will help businesses to incorporate websites system into there marketing plans and result in better decisions based on advertising response modeling. A banner ad can be successful in many ways. methods to judge and evaluate banner ads are as follow a) Clicks/Click-throughs: It is basically the number of clicks made on that banner and judged on the basis of cost per clicks .b) Page views:, this is the number of times page has been viewed from the server Also called page impressions. It gives an idea that how many people could have seen the banner ad. though it does not give proper view of the visitors and branding campaign. The most popular way to sell banner ad space is cost per thousand impressions. c) Click-through rate (CTR): It is a ratio of page views to clicks and generally expressed as a percentage of people who viewed the page and actually click through to banner ad.. The typi cal click-through-rate is 1 percent.d) Cost per sale: This helps evaluate the amount of expenses made on getting one sale. Different means are used for this purpose. Internet cookies are used which allows to combine the actual sale made and how customer reached the site. Improving banner click-through rates are essential for the marketer and the Web site doing the advertising. As banners are priced according to click-through rates, everyone works to improve click-through rates. click-through rates will advertiser understand which Web site offers the required options. Click-through rates are affected by various factors generally ranging from 2% onwards. animation , cryptic messages , posing questions are methods to improve and understand response rates, it also includes call to action phrases, color and animation, with a sense of urgency tending to decrease response rates (Double Click and I/PRO, 1996).another way to improve response rates is targeting advertisement banners based on website requirements. banner s response rate declines due to excessive exposure, with research indicating that banner (DoubleClick and I/PRO, 1996; Modahl and MacQuiddy, 1996).According to Ofcom research most of the children have a profile on a social networking site on in ternet. The report shows that how important have social networking sites become for Briton people. 49% of internet users are in the age group of 8-17 year olds, the report also tell us that over a 22% of internet users aged 16+ have a social networking profile. According to research it is common for adults to have a profile on more than one site and more than half of social net workers say that they visit their accounts once in a day . It has been indicated by research that social media sites have changed meaning of friends. People now derive its meaning making list of people have only online friendship but never met in real life.( 2 April 2008, Social Networking: A Quantitative and Qualitative Research Report into Attitudes , Behaviors and Use Ofcom Social Networking Sites Research) Dennis A. Pitta says, use of advertising media in a traditional way have been reduced in the last few years due to online competitors. The mixture of these connections, increasing Wi-Fi and access to internet, and apart from this varies preferences of customer and ease in getting what they want has put traditional media in danger. Companies that did not exist ten years ago, like Facebook and Twitter, now overshadow traditional publishers face book and twitter who had no standing earlier now overpower the traditional media. Newspapers, for example, being most popular are now hardly existing. cities that boasting of having huge variety are now hardly having one . Even Washington Post   was so successful is now surviving by offering lesser ads and also reduced content result the jobs in newspapers are getting affected and size of the content is getting reduced. Taking example of the classic magazine,  Business week, It was sold to Bloomberg for less than $5 million (Journal of Consu mer Marketing, Volume 27, Issue 5 Dennis A. Pitta). Social media has also affected radio and television advertising as well. Though , they are not dying out completely but are giving importance to alternatives. the trend toward product in traditional ways of advertising have reached its highest point. A US television show,  Bones, featured actors driving in a Toyota Sienna minivan. One commented that the car seemed unsuited to the driver who was a single woman. Her reply was that as she was artist, the Sienna had enough space for her canvases and was still a good car to drive. In this way by twisting traditional ways traditional media is still trying to keep up there standing. For super active marketers social media acts as a breath of change. They give a two-way one-to-one marketing message. Though the manner in which described is complicated but is accurate. Social media has a strong word of mouth which can be easily given to there audience, which is the one-to-one element. Furthermore , it gives advertisers freedom to understand the consumers reaction. There is a surprising trend towards social media due to the advantages available. Therefore advertisers have shifted there budgets to social media due to wide reach as it reaches there target market more easily. Advent of a new marketing tool leads to using it to best possible level. The challenge is to understand the advantages and disadvantages of social media. Agencies are employing experts in this area and are trying to master the information resource to lots of advertisers. Aristophanes, Plautus, And Euripides Essays - Women And Death

Aristophanes, Plautus, And Euripides Essays - Women And Death Aristophanes, Plautus, And Euripides In times of struggle and hardship, people are constantly looking for ways to escape their reality. They have found release from their stress in practices such as exercise, therapy, and meditation. In the ancient times of Greece and Rome, life for the citizens was strict and sometimes harsh. During these times of struggle, people searched for ways to vacation from the laws that bore down upon them. One of the ways they accomplished this was through art. Art was a way to express true feeling and emotion and unite a sometimes-divided population. Drama served as one escape for the citizens in Greece and Rome. Attending the plays written by Euripides, Aristophanes and Plautus, gave the people time to get away from their worries and chores and drift into a world of drama. A world where laws can be broken, women can have intelligence and slaves outwit their masters. One of the reasons the plays written by the authors of this time were so popular was because people were able to leave reality behind and slip into a world where none of the truths they held proved to be true. A famous playwright during ancient Greece was Aristophanes. During his lifetime there was extreme political turbulence. Many of his plays reflect the issues of this time and the social concerns. However, instead of presenting these matters seriously and appropriately, he does it in a jovial and satirical manner. His sole purpose in this is to take a bad situation and make it humorous for the audience. It has often been said, especially in recent years, that in Aristophanes political and social thought is purely incidental and always subordinated to the desire to amuse his audience and win the prize(Cambridge, 38). In many of his plays he mimics political situations and figures and the outcome is very humorous. The audience is able to relax and laugh about the problems facing Greece Many elements in his plays are not real and could not have even been conceived of at that time. In Aristophanes play, Lysistrata, the women of Athens and Sparta formulate a ridiculous plot to end the war by abstaining from sexual intercourse with their husbands. Aristophanes takes a difficult and pressing subject, the Peloponnesian War, and develops it into an illusive story of how a woman ends the war. The thought that a woman would have enough intelligence to end the war was a very impractical thought and the idea that Aristophanes would create su ch a plot was quite comedic. It made the audience feel as if they were in an unrealistic world because roles were reversed. Another reason the audience enjoyed the play was for its sheer guts. For Aristophanes to write a whole play about sexual intercourse was gutsy and the audience appreciated the fact that they could attend such a controversial event. During a time when rules and morals were stiff, Aristophanes showed the people of Greece that there is a time when you can relax and thoroughly enjoy yourself. He released some of the pressure of the war by ridiculing it. The audience had a chance to escape the harsh reality of the times and focus on the humor of Aristophanes. Another playwright of ancient literature was Plautus. He came about many years later, but his works did the same for his audiences as Aristophanes did for his. His plays were comical as well, but his work had another aspect the people appreciated. By making his characters unreal and placing them in unlikely situations, made the audience once again feel as if they were in another world. At the time Plautus was writing and performing his plays, Rome was very conservative. There were moral laws and censorship on almost everything. The plays Plautus wrote broke these limitations and gave the people a sense of freedom. One of the limitations Plautus broke was allowing slaves in his plays to outwit their masters. This was unheard of and the mere thought of this happening was surreal. In Plautus play, The Swaggering Soldier, this very event occurs. A conceited soldier, Pyrgopolynices, is deceived by own his slave, Palestrio. Palestrio, knowing his master is a woman-lover, tricks him into thinking he can

Causes of Alcoholism Alcoholism is a disease that affects many people. It not only affects the alcoholic, but also their family, and friends. The symptoms are many, as are the causes and the effects. Alcoholism is defined as an addiction to alcohol. Harmful consequences may result for the alcoholic, yet he continues to drink. The symptoms of alcoholism vary from person to person. The most common symptoms are changes in emotional state or stability, behavior, and personality. "Alcoholics may become angry and argumentative, or quiet and withdrawn or depressed. They may also feel more anxious, sad, tense, and confused. They then seek relief by drinking more" (Gitlow 175). "Because time and amount of drinking are uncontrollable, the alcoholic is likely to engage in such behaviors as [1] breaking family commitments; [2] spending more money then planned; [3] drinking while intoxicated and getting arrested; [4] making inappropriate remarks to friends, family, and co-workers; and [5] arguing, fighting, and other anti-social actions. The alcoholic would probably neither do such things, nor approve of them in others unless he was drinking" (Johnson 203). The cause of alcoholism is a combination of biological, psychological, and cultural factors. These factors contribute to the development of alcoholism in an individual. Alcoholism seems to run in families. "Although there is no conclusive indication of how the alcoholism of family members is associated, studies show that 50 to 80 percent of all alcoholics have had a close alcoholic relative" (Caplan 266). Researches have suggested that in several cases alcoholics have an inherited presdiposition to alcohol addiction. Studies of animals and human twins have lent support to this theory. Alcoholism can also be related to emotional instabilities. For example, alcoholism is often associated with a family history of manic-depressive illness. Additionally, like many other drug ... Analyzing a Poem Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Analyzing a Poem - Essay Example Thus, the basic journey of the poem can be considered to be that of coming of age of the adolescent as they move from dependent childhood to independent adulthood. It can also be considered a poem of discovery as the person discovers their own voice. In either case, the speaker of the poem takes on an exterior role, speaking to the actor rather than taking part in the action itself yet still having a knowledge of the events that have occurred. Within the poem, it is suggested that the person must have tried to leave before but couldn’t. This is heard in the voices crying out and the trembling of the house, putting in mind the way that older people tend to live vicariously through their children. The poet also indicates that â€Å"it was already late / enough, and a wild night, / and the road full of fallen / branches and stones† (19-22). The traveler has taken the advice that was shouted out before, gaining them nothing but the ability to recognize bad advice when they hear it. The road is not sunny and promising because of the time wasted, they have missed some of their opportunities. However, this time they were able to break through the boundaries that kept them home before, prompting the speaker to recount what the traveler has overcome and providing a comforting, reassuring voice that the traveler has done the right thing for themselves. The poem is not divided along a simple rhyme scheme pattern or even along structured metrical rhythm. Instead, its first two divisions are indicated by the words â€Å"you knew what you had to do,† appearing in the first lines as well as line 13. In the first of these sections, the poet illustrates the clinging nature of the people of the house. They cling to the traveler through guilt and through pity. The second section talks about the desperate emotional struggle of the traveler in trying to take his leave. While the third section ends with the repetition of the key phrase

Compare movie to articles Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Compare movie to articles - Essay Example However, his art became a treat of his legacy when he was called as a friend witness in the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC). He released a list of eight members who were in the communist party to the anti-communist. He went against his own principle by testifying in about the influence of communist in the film industry. The backlist of communist had invaded the film industry for about ten years. It had created a big division in the film industry. The division increased as time moved and thus the blacklist destroyed many lives during its operation. According to Kazan, the blacklist communists aimed at manipulating the culture of US institutions by maneuvering to advance a belligerent foreign policy. Kazan wanted to counter the situation which led him to testify in the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC). His actions made him to be awarded in the Oscar awards. Half of the audience who attended the Oscar awards ceremony got angry about the award given to Ka zan and thus decided to protest against the decision of giving Kazan the award (Barzman 32). They argued that Kazan was morally compromised since he was also a communist. His artistic form of film directing gave him the chance to expose illegal activities in the government through films and also helped in the depiction of the civil society. A lot of people could not understand why he decided to expose the eight communist. However he clearly stated in his defense that the communist named in the blacklist were in the verge of manipulating the US culture thus he acted in order to conserve it. Distorting the US culture would greatly affect the production of film in the United States. Kazan used the film ‘On the Waterfront’ to justify his testimony before HUAC as he focuses on a temporary hero who turns out to be a focal summit of collective action. This directly pointed to his case where he tried to save the cultural value of the state and ended up being the victim of his o wn contribution as people turned to criticize his actions. This is the same way many readers disagree with the readings and ideas in the film ‘On the Waterfront’. Kazan does not focus fully on politics as he also introduces the art of love story in his film (Horne 25). This was to show that he was not only advocating for communism but also considered the moral culture of the society. The story of job in the bible can be compared to the moral approach in the case of Kazan. God gave the devil permission to test the faith of Job. Job always thought that his sons had in a way sinned against God. This made his offer burnt sacrifices on several occasions to pardon their sins. This notion shows that Job was greatly concerned about the conservation of morals that were pleasing to God. Therefore, he made sure that his sons kept good morals and were not swayed away by the devil. This can be related to Kazan’s case as he advocated for the conservation of the American cultur e and would go to the extent of unlashing the names of his colleagues whom he felt were going against his beliefs. The release of the blacklist portrays this aspect as it contains Kazan’s fellow directors. Job was tested by the devil in several occasions but he stood farm to his belief in God. His family abandoned him since they say that his beliefs would not heal him. Job faced rebellion from his own people in the same way Kazan experienced a period of

History of Management in Criminal Justice Agencies Essay

History of Management in Criminal Justice Agencies - Essay Example e way the United States criminal justice system has been managed over the past few decades, with former English customs and laws playing a significant role in influencing the contemporary system (Randolph, 2005). The criminal justice system includes parole and probation officers, correction officers, court officers, investigators and line officers. In the early days of the English law enforcement instituted by Alfred the Great, police forces were formed by loyal families who patrolled their regions. They appointed their own leaders, known as reeves, to oversee and coordinate the wider alliances (Friedman, 1993). The reeves later came to be known as sheriffs. To ensure the loyalty of the sheriffs, the power of appointing them was taken over by William the conqueror when he came into power. In the early 18th century, the system established by William the conqueror was borrowed by Philadelphia, Boston and New York with each having 10 official patrol areas (Randolph, 2005). The 19th cent ury industrialization and population growth brought about the need for police departments in municipals. Although New York and Philadelphia had 24 hour police force in service by 1830, some counties still operate under the sheriff system today. The difference is that the sheriffs are not appointed through local governments, but rather elected by citizens. Today, managers within the criminal justice system are knowledgeable in security, police and disaster management fields. Within the judiciary, before the revolution, American courts followed laws that Great Britain had handed down to them. However, the settlers and colonists later rejected the English laws because they did not grant them equal rights as Englishmen under The Great Charter of the Liberties of England (Friedman, 1993). They rejected attempts to be governed by the English Parliament from overseas yet they were not accorded representation. The subsequent rebellion ended in the American Revolution. With the adoption of the

Physical Fitness Test Essay Example for Free

Physical Fitness Test Essay Research Strategy and Design The researchers will be using the descriptive strategy to study the facts derived from the research. The researchers will be using the descriptive strategy in order to ascertain prevailing conditions and to give qualitative and quantitative description. This strategy is intended to answer questions about the current state of the problem the researchers are studying and the individuals involve. The researchers will also be describing each factor that contributes to physical deficiency of cadets. The researcher’s concern is not the relationship between these factors and the cadets but of the description and elaboration of these factors. On the other hand, the researchers will be using the survey research design to give a qualitative and quantitative description of the problem. The survey research design will be a fact finding study with accurate and adequate interpretation, (Calderon and Gonzales, 2007). This would help the researchers to gather data needed in the study in order to have a precise data for the researcher’s analysis. This will also provide a clear and accurate picture of the individual being studied. Population and Locale of the Study The total population of the study will be cadets of the Cadet Corps Armed Forces of the Philippines (CCAFP) composed of firstclass, secondclass, thirdclass and fourthclass cadets. The place of the study will be at the Cadet Corps Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Military Academy, Fort del Pilar, Baguio City. The researchers will use the stratified random sampling in order to determine the number of respondents since the population totaled to 875 cadets. This method will yield the manageable sample that will be studied and be taken respondents. The researchers will use this sampling technique because the participants are randomly selected from the different classes in the CCAFP. The researchers will be using the Slovin’s Formula as statistical tool in getting the total sample of the respondents. Slovin’s Formula: n= ( N / (1 + Ne? ) ) in which: n= the size of the sample N= the size of the population e= the margin of error Computation: n= ( N / (1 + Ne? ) ) ( 875 / 1 + (875 ? 0. 10? ) ) = 89. 74 or 90 cadets There would be a total of 90 cadets that are needed to accomplish the study. The researchers will get 23 respondents for the firstclass and seconclass cadets and 22 respondents for the thirdclass and fourthclass cadets. Statistical Treatment of Data Statistical treatment gives meaning and interpretation to data (Calderon and Gonzales, 2007). Without it, the data gathered cannot be associated to give answers to the pr oblems posed in the research study. In order to arrive at precise analysis and interpretation of the results, the proponents will be utilizing different tools in treating the data. In the study, the researchers will be making use of the weighted mean to determine the extent of the factors that contribute to the deficiency of the cadets in Physical Fitness Test. In the second part of the questionnaire and 1st and 2nd specific statement of the problem, the weighted mean will be calculated using the following formula: ?fx X = ______ ?f Where: X = weighted arithmetic mean ?fx = sum of all products of f and x; where f is the frequency and x is the weight of each option ? f = sum of all subjects The obtained answer will be rounded off to the nearest whole number and whatever value obtained corresponds to the characteristic given by the scale. The profile of the respondents will be treated using percentage distribution. The researchers will then be able to assess the respondents or the population in general. In order to find a ignificant difference in the responses from the different age, class, Body Mass Index (BMI) and sex, the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is employed. This statistical tool will test the hypothesis that there is a significant difference in the: 1. Responses of the cadets belonging to an age bracket. 2. Responses of the cadets belonging to different class. 3. Responses of the cadets having different Body Mass Index (BMI). 4. Responses of the cadets having different sex. The formula for the Analysis of Variance will be given by: F = MS MSe Where : MS = Mean square MSe = Mean square error
